From Biospecimens to Digital Rehabilomics: The SwiSCI Biobank as a National Platform for Spinal Cord Injury Research

Prof. Dr. Jivko Stoyanov is Group Leader of the SCI Population Biobanking and Translational Research Group at Swiss Paraplegic Research, Nottwil, and Titular Professor at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Bern. He leads the SwiSCI Biobank, a national research infrastructure for spinal cord injury that links standardized biospecimens with longitudinal cohort and clinical data. His research combines translational medicine, digital biobanking, inflammatory and immune profiling, microbiome science, targeted proteomics and trial-linked biosampling. Under his leadership, the SwiSCI Biobank has developed a secure digital chain of custody and is being extended into a FAIR-compatible Digital Rehabilomics environment integrating clinical data with proteomics, microbiomics and transcriptomics. His work aims to convert high-quality biospecimen infrastructures into reproducible platforms for mechanistic research, biomarker development, and future clinical trials in spinal cord injury.
