The value of freezing microbes

Prof. Adrian Egli is the chair of medical microbiology and director of the Institute of Medical Microbiology at the University of Zurich. Since 2025, he acts the deputy-director of the Swiss Biobanking Platform. His research focuses on host-pathogen interactions, where he and his team explore evolutionary aspects of virulence and antibiotic drug resistance in vitro and in vivo. In addition, he also explores the role of bacterial communities. For his research activities, he has built multiple biobanks of single pathogens and microbiota.
